6/25/2015 1 Comment Swollfest Artist Rudy “RK” RowellDr. Nicholas “Nick” Rauber earned his DDS from the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry and subsequently formed the Aesthetic Dentistry Group in collaboration with Dr. Daniel O. Bankhead. He continues to serve as director of Swollfest Fishing Rodeo, which he founded at the age of 17. Through this three-day tournament, Dr. Nick Rauber supports the work of charitable organizations such as the American Diabetes Association and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
A passionate painter and the founder of VigoBOOM! Designs, “RK” Rowell assisted with the creation of the first poster for the 12th Annual Swollfest in 2008. This was Rowell's first experience painting for a fishing rodeo, but his rough sketches quickly won approval. His distinctive style fit well with the Swollfest approach. RK Rowell's exceptional work earned him the title of official artist for Swollfest. He started a tradition that continues today - each year, a different local artist will paint the annual poster. His passing in 2009 left many sad, but his legacy continues at Swollfest, where artists such as Lauren Barksdale Hill and Mickey Asche have held his post as official artists.

Nick Rauber, DDS, combines his dental career at the Aesthetic Dentistry Group with his role as the director of Swollfest Fishing Rodeo, a fundraising event in Grand Isle, Louisiana. On top of these pursuits, Dr. Nicholas Rauber contributes to a wide range of charitable organizations in his community, including the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA).
The CCA is dedicated to the conservation of marine resources through various advocacy efforts, educational initiatives, and preservation projects. In Louisiana, the CCA most recently started construction on an artificial reef system designed to safeguard seafloor depressions that were caused by the dominant current around Ship Shoal 26, which is locally referred to as “the Pickets.” The Pickets Reef will incorporate an estimated 14,000 tons of limestone across three artificial reefs that were specifically engineered for the project. The artificial reef will provide protection to the scour holes and create extra habitat for the surrounding marine life, while ensuring that the site will be an enjoyable fishing reef for future generations. CCA Louisiana launched the $1.2 million project in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Artificial Reef Trust Fund, Fieldwood Energy, and Apache Corporation. According to the CCA, the Pickets Reef is the 14th reef CCA Louisiana has built since 2004, and the 10th reef funded by the Artificial Reef Trust Fund and CCA Louisiana. Nicholas (Nick) Rauber, DDS, serves the Baton Rouge, Louisiana, community as both an accomplished dental practitioner and dedicated philanthropist. In addition to serving patients at his practice, Aesthetic Dentistry Group, Dr. Nick Rauber also spearheads the annual Swollfest Fishing Rodeo, which he founded to raise support and awareness for the American Diabetes Association and Muscular Dystrophy Association. A graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry, Dr. Rauber recently received professional recognition from the Louisiana Dental Association (LDA).
In April 2015, the professional organization presented Dr. Rauber with its annual New Dentist Award at its 135th House of Delegates held at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center. Each year, the LDA recognizes one outstanding dentist for his or her efforts to serve and enrich the wider community. The award program is open to dentists who have practiced for fewer than 10 years and highlights their achievements in the dental profession as well as their community service and civic involvement. In addition to the quality of his work at Aesthetic Dentistry, the LDA honored Dr. Rauber for his service to organizations such as the LSU School of Dentistry and the Greater Baton Rouge Dental Association. His charitable activities have also supported Give Kids A Smile Day, the LA Mission of Mercy, and the Dental Lifeline Network, as well as numerous philanthropic initiatives beyond the dental sector. |
